The Friends of the Platt Library was established in 1974 to bring awareness about the important role a library would play in our community. The Platt Library opened 21 years later, in 1995.
Today, the Friends of the Platt Library works to improve the quality of the programs and services offered at the library which include special guests, youth programs, and raising money the library needs to continue its important mission of bringing the magic of books to people of all ages.
There are many ways you can help us. You can make a donation of books or media that we can share with others or sell to raise money for special projects, or you can make a monetary donation. You can choose how the money is spent or simply add your donation to our discretionary fund.
The Friends of the Platt Library support the library by donating materials and services not provided by the city. We also staff and run the used bookstore to raise funds which are used for special programs. We provide volunteers such as "GAB readers" and "literacy program volunteers" to assist the library staff. We host community programs of general interest and we provide additional "Hot Off The Press" books.
We have several "Friend" memberships available starting as low as $10 per year and special memberships for businesses.
We welcome donations in any amount but some donations include a commemorative bookplate and can be given as a tribute.
We have all types of items in the bookstore which you can purchase to help us raise funds, or you can donate your unused books and media.
We are always looking for good ideas and suggestions. So, if you have an idea of how we can improve our community through the efforts here at the library, please let us know. We will carefully consider every idea submitted to us and we will try to implement your idea if we can.
1)
Use the library! Encourage your friends to use the library too.
2)
Attend our programs! Tell your friends about our events and speakers.
3)
Buy books! Our books make economical gifts for your family and friends - or for yourself!
If you haven't done so already, go online to Yelp and find the listing for the Platt Library. You can then give us a 5-star rating and write a review that tells other people what you like about the library the most. This will help build recognition to our library and the projects we are working on. We have a great community, and we can prove it by having the most and best reviews on the Internet! Don't give up. Tell your friends and family members to also go online and give us a nice review. It's fast and easy and can help us a lot. You can even go one step farther and include some pictures of the library or the surrounding area. Get creative. Most every phone has a camera built-in, so it doesn't even take much extra effort. Find a nice place to stage a shot of perhaps some plant or a sunrise or sunset with the library in the picture. Anything like that would just be amazing! Thank you.
